Tasmanian Govt Urged to Update on Cochlear Implant Defects

Tas Labor

Faults in programming of Cochlear implants in Adelaide have led to long-term developmental issues in children.

In announcing the findings from a review, the South Australian Health Minister said that it could have national implications, with similar mistakes made in Queensland.

With concerns that these issues could be nation-wide we must ensure Tasmanian children have not been affected.

Health Minister Guy Barnett should provide an update on this situation and ease concerns that children across the state are not exposed to these faults.

Minister Barnett also needs to outline whether or not a similar review to the one in South Australia is required here in Tasmania.
