Tasmanian Labor Calls for Cap on Power Prices, 03 Sep 2023

Tas Labor

Peter and Patricia Harvey have been delivering emergency food relief to residents south of Hobart for almost a decade. They are wonderful people who have put their heart and soul into what they are doing.

They are telling us they have never seen economic conditions like this. Over the last 12 months inflation has been the highest it's been in 35 years and electricity prices continue to skyrocket as a key component of that. Tasmanians are doing it tough.

The average household is now paying almost $500 per year than they were for electricity before prices started skyrocketing.

To protect Tasmanian households and small businesses we need to cap power prices.

Instead of capping power prices for households, families have instead been expected to absorb a 22.5 per cent increase in just two years.

After 10 years in office, the Liberals have left Tasmanians paying the price for their complete inaction on skyrocketing cost-of-living pressures.

Labor has a plan to cap power prices, ease housing pressures and help families manage their household budgets.
