Tasmania's Thriving Kids Partnerships to Support Families Earlier

Tasmanian Government

The Tasmanian Government is partnering with Playgroup Tasmania and St.Giles to deliver the national Thriving Kids program, one of the most significant reforms to child development and disability support.

Minister for Disability Services, Jo Palmer, said our Government's 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future is driving investment in services to help children and families thrive.

"Thriving Kids is a major investment in Tasmania's children, families and communities, making it easier for families to access practical supports when and where they need them," Minister Palmer said.

"For many families, knowing where to begin can be difficult. Thriving Kids will offer clear information, practical advice and help connect families with the right support at the right time.

"Importantly families will not need a diagnosis to access information, navigation and many supports.

"Our investment includes Early Childhood Connectors in every region, helping families understand their options and connect with the right local services sooner.

"These dedicated workers will strengthen pathways between health, education, early childhood and community services, so families spend less time trying to work out where to go and more time accessing support."

Through the Tasmanian Government's partnership with Playgroup Tasmania, supported playgroups will provide welcoming, strengths-based spaces where children and families can build confidence, connection and capability together.

St.Giles will deliver allied health support, including speech pathology and occupational therapy, helping families recognise developmental concerns early and access practical support in their local community.

"Playgroup Tasmania and St.Giles bring deep experience, trusted local connections and a shared commitment to putting children and families at the centre," Minister Palmer said.

"I'm incredibly pleased to be partnering with both of these fantastic organisations as we continue to deliver greater supports for Tasmanian families."

Thriving Kids commenced from 1 October 2026, with services to expand progressively until the full range of supports is in place from 1 January 2028.
