Tasmanian Government
The Tasmanian Government is delivering for students at TasTAFE, with the new $2.35 million Automotive Training Centre on Hobart's Eastern Shore welcoming its first apprentices and learners today.
Developed through a strategic partnership between TasTAFE and the Tasmanian Automotive Chamber of Commerce (TACC), the new fit-for-purpose centre replaces the former Campbell Street facility, which was impacted by major flooding in 2024.
Minister for Skills and Jobs, Felix Ellis, said the new facility will be a gamechanger for the industry and support more than 100 automotive apprentices to complete their qualifications.
"This is a significant day for Tasmania's automotive industry," Minister Ellis said.
"The new Automotive Training Centre puts learners at the centre, with industry-aligned automotive workshops, teaching spaces, modern amenities, and shared spaces for industry-led events, training, and forums.
"I acknowledge the significant contribution of the TACC in securing the new facility and thank all parties who helped bring this project to fruition, particularly teaching and support staff at TasTAFE, and industry and apprentices for working through interim training arrangements.
"This Government is delivering for Tasmanians, with ongoing investment in capital upgrades to ensure TasTAFE can continue delivering the training and skills Tasmanians need."
