Teen Charged After Gun Seized in Narrabri Traffic Stop

A teenage boy has been charged after a loaded firearm and ammunition was seized during a motor vehicle stop in the state's north west slopes region on the weekend.

Officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were conducting a vehicle stop in Narrabri about 8.15pm Saturday 13 June 2026 when they observed a motorbike being ridden by a male which appeared to be bogged in an embankment along Cooma Road.

Police attended and spoke to the boy – aged 16 – who was allegedly not wearing a helmet.

During a search of the teenager, officers located a homemade firearm which was loaded with a single round of .22-calibre ammunition, a case containing 30 rounds of .22-calibre ammunition and 345 slug-gun pellets.

The teen was arrested and taken to Narrabri Police Station, where he was charged with,

  • Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority (two counts)
  • Possess loaded firearm public place
  • Possess unauthorised firearm
  • Possess unregistered firearm in public place.

The boy was granted strict conditional bail to appear before a children's court on Tuesday 28 July 2026.
