Teen Charged in Dover Heights School Gun Incident

A 15-year-old boy has been charged after an alleged firearm incident triggered a lockdown at a high school in Sydney's east yesterday.

About 1.45pm on Thursday 19 March 2026, officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command were called to a school in Dover Heights following reports that a student had been seen with a firearm.

Police were told about 11.30am, the boy allegedly showed another student what appeared to be a firearm before allegedly firing a pellet at him. The projectile reportedly struck the student, though there were no reports of injuries.

The incident prompted the school into lockdown.

When officers arrived, they allegedly located and seized a ball-bearing-style firearm believed to have been used in the incident.

The 15-year-old was arrested and taken to Surry Hills Police Station, where he was charged with:

  • possess unregistered unauthorised pistol in a public place
  • stalk/intimidate with intent to cause fear of physical harm
  • fire firearm in or near a public place

He was refused bail and will appear before a Children's Court today (Friday 20 March 2026).
