Police have arrested a 14-year-old boy for allegedly carrying a machete at Helensvale last night, 27 May.
Around 9pm, officers were conducting proactive wanding patrols under the provisions of 'Jack's Law' at a train station in Helensvale when they located a 14-year-old boy with a large machete concealed in his waist-band.
Police seized the machete and a 14-year-old Parkwood boy will now be dealt with under provision of the Youth Justice Act.
Since Jack's Law was legislated and expanded in July last year (2025), Gold Coast police have been actively engaging with the community scanning 30,656 people with 225 weapons located.
Jack's Law allows QPS officers to use handheld metal-detectors to scan people and their belongings in public areas including Safe Night Precincts, shopping centres, public transit hubs and on public transport, to detect knives and other dangerous weapons.
By scanning for, detecting, and removing dangerous weapons from public places, the QPS aims to reduce the harm these weapons cause in the community while also educating the public on the risks of unlawfully carrying a weapon.
