Teenager arrested after pursuit - Normanhurst

A teen has been arrested after a pursuit in Sydney's north west last night.

About 11pm (Wednesday 13 January 2021), officers attached to Ryde Highway Patrol were conducting patrols on the M1 Motorway, near Wahroonga, when they saw a white Audi travelling south bound on the M1 at high speed.

Checks revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen and had allegedly been involved in a pursuit earlier that evening in the Tuggerah Lakes area.

Police activated their warning lights and sirens directing the driver to stop; however, the driver allegedly accelerated away, and a pursuit was initiated.

Police followed the Audi where it continued south towards Pennant Hills Road. A short time later the vehicle crossed over a median strip and onto Frith Avenue where it collided with a telegraph pole.

Police arrested the driver – a 17-year-old boy – at the scene.

The teenager was subjected to a road-side breath test which produced a negative result. He was taken to Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital for mandatory testing.

Checks revealed the 17-year-old did hold a current driver's licence.

Inquiries continue.
