A teenage boy has been charged over an alleged attempted armed robbery in the states west.
About 5.35pm on Sunday (28 June 2026), officers from Central North Police District responded to reports of an attempted armed robbery at a food outlet on the Mitchell Highway near Tarcoon Street, Bourke.
Police were informed that a male allegedly armed with a pair of scissors entered the store threatening a 27-year-old female employee.
When the male was challenged by another staff member - a 35-year-old man – he allegedly ran from the store empty handed.
There were no reports of any person being injured.
A crime scene was established and an investigation commenced.
Following inquiries detectives arrested a 17-year-old boy at a home on Wilson Street, Bourke about 3pm yesterday (Monday 29 June 2026).
He was taken to Bourke Police Station and charged with assault with intent to rob armed with offensive weapon and refused bail to appear at a children's court today (Tuesday 30 June 2026).
