Teens Charged With Theft in St. George Area

Police have charged three young people following alleged thefts from businesses in Sydney's south.

Officers from St George Police Area Command established Operation Hurricane following reports of large groups of young people gathering in packs, entering businesses, intimidating staff and stealing various items in Kogarah and Hurstville.

Following investigations, police located and arrested three young people in Hurstville about 4.45pm on Thursday 19 March 2026.

A 16-year-old girl, a 15-year-old boy, and a 14-year-old boy were taken to Kogarah Police Station where they were charged with various offences.

The girl was charged with five counts of larceny value less than $2000.

Police will allege in court the girl stole clothing from stores on Wednesday 4 February, Saturday 21 February, Wednesday 4 March, Friday 6 March and Sunday 15 March.

The 15-year-old boy was charged with:

  • Larceny (four counts)
  • Enter inclosed land not prescribed without lawful excuse (two counts)
  • Minor enter/remain in area for retail sale of liquor (two counts), and
  • Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (not motor vehicle).

Police will allege in court the 15-year-old boy stole clothing and alcohol from stores on Monday 9 March, Saturday 14 March, Sunday 15 March and Tuesday 17 March.

The 14-year-old boy was charged with:

  • Larceny (five counts)
  • Minor enter/remain in area for retail sale of liquor
  • Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (not motor vehicle), and
  • Give false name

Police will allege in court the 14-year-old boy stole clothing and alcohol from stores on Wednesday 7 January, Wednesday 4 March, Sunday 9 March, Saturday 14 March and Sunday 15 March.

They were all refused bail to appear at a children's court on Friday 20 March 2026.

Investigations continue under Operation Hurricane.
