Four teenagers have been arrested by police following an affray and series of attempted aggravated carjackings in a shopping centre carpark in Epping on Sunday.
Detectives from Mill Park Divisional Response Unit have charged two of the four teens while the two others are expected to be charged on summons.
A 15-year-old boy from the Ballarat area, has been charged with aggravated carjacking, attempted aggravated carjacking (x2), affray, criminal damage and assault with a weapon.
A 15-year-old girl from the Darebin area has been charged with aggravated carjacking, attempted aggravated carjacking (x2), affray, intentionally cause injury, assault with a weapon and resist emergency worker while on duty.
The charges follow a series of incidents in a busy shopping centre carpark off High Street on 18 May about 11am.
Officers were initially called to the scene following reports of an affray where several youths were armed with knives. Police have been told the victims were threatened before one victim sustained a minor injury after allegedly being slashed with a knife.
In the second incident the group of four alleged offenders ran towards a vehicle before the occupants were threatened with a knife. The passenger was allegedly pulled from the car by their hair and assaulted before they were able to run from the scene. The driver drove off, also managing to get away.
In the third incident a woman was pulled from her vehicle and allegedly threatened with a knife. The offenders tried to drive off with the car only to realise the car was manual, so they moved on to another vehicle.
In the fourth and fifth incidents the alleged offenders approached two other vehicles brandishing knives, damaging one before the victims were also able to get away.
Police tracked down the quartet, who had run from the scene, and they were arrested shortly after.
The boy has been remanded while the girl was bailed with both to appear before a children's court on at a later date.
The two others arrested, a 13-year-old girl from the Yarra area and a 16-year-old boy from the Melton area, were both interviewed in relation to aggravated carjacking, attempted aggravated carjacking affray and criminal damage.
It is expected the pair will be charged on summons.
