Noosaville Library will temporarily close from 26 October to 15 November while major infrastructure upgrades are carried out to ensure the much-loved facility continues serving our community for many years to come.
Works will include a full roof replacement, installation of a new solar system and height safety system.
"Noosaville Library is a very highly valued community hub that welcomes approximately 147,000 visitors each year for learning, social connection and access to important services," Noosa Mayor Frank Wilkie said.
"While we appreciate this temporary closure will be inconvenient for library users, these works are essential and will protect the building for the future and improve its sustainability through the installation of a new solar system."
The initial stage of works, involving the roof replacement, requires the library to close to both staff and the public for approximately three weeks from 26 October to 15 November. This will be the first major closure of Noosaville Library for refurbishment works in more than seven years.
Following the library's reopening, installation of the solar and height safety systems will continue for a further six weeks. These works can safely be undertaken while the library remains open, although some noise disruption may occur from time to time.
"Alternative arrangements are in place to ensure residents can continue accessing core library services during the closure period," Council Arts and Culture Manager Paul Brinkman said.
The Cooroy Library will have extended weekend opening hours during the temporary closure period, while the Mobile Library service will provide additional stops in Tewantin from Monday to Wednesday.
The eLibrary will remain available 24/7 for eBooks, eAudiobooks, digital magazines, movies and online resources.
Library items can be returned at Cooroy Library, through the Mobile Library, or via a temporary returns chute located between Noosaville Library and the Noosa Leisure Centre. While the Library of Things collection will be unavailable during the closure, library staff will continue to assist customers with heritage enquiries and support services.
