Toowoomba-based companies Aspect Architects and Kehoe Myers have been awarded the tender to provide architectural and engineering services for the Soldiers' Memorial Hall refurbishment project.
The building restoration and refurbishment project will upgrade facilities for user groups and the general community. This work will preserve the building's heritage and ensure it is maintained for future community use.
Toowoomba Regional Council Mayor Paul Antonio said the refurbishment was a major investment in the future of the iconic Toowoomba heritage building.
"The refurbishment will ensure the building continues to serve as a monument to our fallen and a place of support for current and ex-service personnel from our Region," Mayor Antonio said.
"The project will be completed as a multi-staged upgrade. The first stage will focus on identified urgent building repairs, including the rear roof restoration works, and upgrading the front portion of the building.
"I'm pleased to see local businesses are involved in revitalising one of Toowoomba's most treasured buildings. In addition, the work will generate jobs and stimulate economic growth within the local community."
Mayor Antonio sad the plans for upgrading the building had been a long-time goal of Council.
"The Soldiers' Memorial Hall is a Queensland State Heritage registered building that is owned by Toowoomba Regional Council," Mayor Antonio said.
"We want the building to be a safe, comfortable and accessible meeting and gathering space that creates a sense of community and, most importantly, remain a shrine to the memory of those who lost their lives in conflict."
The Soldiers' Memorial Hall upgrade is funded by the Australian Government through the Building Better Regions Fund and Toowoomba Regional Council.
