The Territory Labor Government is continuing to deliver improvements to our road network through a pipeline of works.
Earlier this month, two tenders were released to upgrade sections along two major roads in Central Australia - Maryvale Road and the Plenty Highway.
The works on the Maryvale Road involve the upgrading and sealing between chainage 19km and Chainage 35km, with an eight metre wide, two-lane seal.
Territory business Aldebaran Contracting Pty Ltd recently completed the sealing of a further 10kms of Maryvale Road to Titjikala to a two-lane sealed standard. Maryvale Road services a number of Aboriginal communities and pastoral leases, and is the main access route for a number of tourist destinations.
The Plenty Highway will be upgraded from chainage 224km to 244km, and will include the establishment of a nine-metre sealed carriageway .The project will also include a sealed truck parking bay.
Over $8.8 million has been spent over the past year sealing and upgrading the Plenty Highway.
The Plenty Highway tender has been released, with the tender to upgrade Maryvale Road to be released this month, with works on both anticipated to begin in early 2022.
The Territory Government, in partnership with the Australian Government, has invested over $33 million in the last 12-months to upgrade roads across Central Australia, including the Plenty Highway, Tjukaruru Road, Tanami Road and Maryvale Road.
