Tennant Creek: Escaped Prisoners Arrested

The Northern Territory Police Force has arrested four prisoners who absconded from a Tennant Creek work camp over the weekend.

Around 3:30am on Saturday, police received a report that four men had absconded from the low security correctional work camp with the assistance of another man who was known to them.

The man allegedly drove them from a nearby location in a vehicle along with supplying them a change of clothes and assisting them in removing their electronic monitoring devices.

Tennant Creek Police investigators deployed to the area and by 8:20am on Saturday, all correctional prisoners were re-arrested in Tennant Creek without incident, including the man who assisted them.

All four prisoners have been charged with Escape Lawful Custody and Damage to property.

The 23-year-old man who assisted them has been charged with:

  • 4 x Aid another to escape custody
  • 1 x Drive with prohibited drug in body
  • 1 x Driving MV without consent
  • 1 x Drive a MV while unlicensed

He was bailed to appear in Tennant Creek Local Court on 13 January 2026.

Superintendent Peter Dash said, "These arrests were the result of the seamless collaboration between policing units who were able to quickly track and re-arrest these prisoners before they attempted to leave the Territory."
