Tết brings fireworks and festivities to Wanneroo

  • Tết New Year Festival set celebrated by WA's Vietnamese community
  • Celebration supported by the McGowan Government with more than $52,000
  • Fireworks will blaze trails of colour across the sky as Tết Nguyên Đán returns to Wanneroo Showgrounds tonight and tomorrow, with thousands expected to join the Vietnamese New Year celebrations.

Hosted by the Western Australian Chapter of Vietnamese Community in Australia, the Tết celebration is one of WA's most exciting carnivals and is increasingly drawing festival-goers from the wider community.

Highlights include a wide variety of food, cultural performances, carnival rides and live music - as well as a spectacular fireworks display to usher in the Year of the Rat.

This year's Tết celebration is supported by the McGowan Government, with $20,000 through the Office of Multicultural Interests, $17,428 of Lotterywest funding and $15,000 from Healthway.

As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:

"Tết celebrations in Perth are an opportunity for everyone to experience the vibrant Vietnamese culture that is such an important part of our community.

"I'm looking forward to joining in the celebrations at the Tết New Year Festival and wish everyone celebrating Tết good fortune for the Year of the Rat. Chúc mừng năm mới!"

As stated by Citizenship and Multicultural Interests Minister Paul Papalia:

"More than 21,000 Western Australians have Vietnamese heritage and the Vietnamese community has contributed enormously to the social, economic and cultural development of this State.

"Tết is a time of joy and for families and friends to come together to enjoy special food and share best wishes for the year ahead.
