Hyper festival, supported by the City of Swan, is set to return to Midland on Saturday, April 1, 2023, bringing with it a fantastic line-up of local and interstate talent.

The all-ages music festival will feature headliners Thelma Plum and King Stingray, alongside Teenage Dads, Old Mervs, and local acts Smol Fish, Spici Water, Angie Colman, Foothead, Siena Rebelo, Hey So Hungry, and Centre.

Hyper is back to its pre-COVID-19 format, with two stages and a silent disco across an expanded site.

In addition to the music, attendees can also enjoy gourmet food vans, a photo booth, free 18-hole adventure golf, games, merchandise, and a signing tent for all their favourite artists.

Thelma Plum is a 24-year-old Gamilaraay woman, musician and creator, and in May 2022, she released an expansive trove of new music.

The Meanjin EP is a love letter to Meanjin/Brisbane where Thelma grew up and where she was based during lockdown. Spawning the singles Backseat of My Mind and The Brown Snake, her EP has captured people's hearts and garnered multiple ARIA nominations as well as two spots in the Triple J Hottest 100 of 2022.

King Stingray is a story of lifelong friendship and two cultures coming together. Growing up together in Yirrkala in north-east Arnhem Land, founding members Yirrŋa Yunupiŋu (frontman) and Roy Kellaway (guitar) have been playing and making music together for as long as they can remember.

Yirrŋa and Roy formed King Stingray with mates Dimathaya Burarrwanga (rhythm guitar backing vocals and yidaki), Campbell Messer (bass) and Lewis Stiles (drums). The band seamlessly blend ancient indigenous melodies with surf, indie and funk influences to create a unique sound of their own: Yolŋu surf-rock.

City of Swan Mayor, Cr David Lucas, said the City is thrilled to see the return of Hyper in its larger, original format.

"The past few years have been challenging for the music and event industry, and it's great to see the return of Hyper to New Junction's LoCale event space in Midland for the community to enjoy," he said.

"We are very proud to support the local artists who will be performing at this fantastic event, and celebrate resilience, arts and creativity."

Tickets to the event are only $35. They are on sale now and are expected to sell out quickly.

Hyper will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at the LoCale event space, in the New Junction precinct, located on the corner of Cale Street and The Crescent in Midland.

Hyper is presented by Drug Aware, and is an all-ages, drug, smoke and alcohol-free event. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
