Third dose vaccination blitz to keep Western Australians safe

  • Two-week blitz to increase third dose vaccination rate in Western Australia
  • An extra 40,000 appointments available at State-run clinics
  • Blitz to increase weekly capacity of State-run clinics to around 100,000 doses
  • Third dose vaccination rate is increasing by about one per cent per day
  • People are encouraged to book their vaccination appointment at VaccinateWA
  • The McGowan Government is launching a two-week third dose vaccination blitz in February to keep Western Australians safe from COVID-19 - particularly Omicron.

Western Australia's double dose vaccination rate for those aged 12 and older is now at 91.9 per cent.

Of those Western Australians 16 and over, 37.6 per cent have received a third dose and the third dose vaccination rate is increasing by around one per cent per day this year.

About 1.2 million Western Australians are currently eligible for a third dose vaccination.

Based on the latest Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) advice, people are eligible to receive their third dose vaccination three months after their second dose.

A third dose vaccination blitz will commence on Monday, February 7, with an anticipated 40,000 additional appointments at State-run clinics over a two-week period.

This will boost weekly capacity of State-run clinics to around 100,000 doses.

Vaccination appointments for children, people with disability and other eligible cohorts will continue throughout the two-week blitz.

State-run clinics have experienced growing demand for vaccinations in recent weeks. To spread demand and secure a vaccination, people are encouraged to make a booking via Vaccinate WA.

Vaccinations are also available at GPs and pharmacies. To find your nearest vaccination clinic visit the Roll up for WA website.

As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:

"Western Australians have done so well with vaccinations - we now have one of the highest first dose vaccination rates in the country.

"More than 91.9 per cent of Western Australians 12 and older are now double dose vaccinated, while 37.6 per cent of eligible Western Australians have received a third dose.

"This is an incredible result but we need to get our third dose vaccination rate higher - particularly with the highly transmissible Omicron variant in our community.

"I encourage everyone eligible for a third dose to roll up during our February blitz to reduce the risk of serious illness or death related to COVID-19."

As stated by Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:

"If you had your second vaccination three months ago or longer you are now eligible for your booster and we urge everyone to take up this opportunity.

"We have the capacity at our State-run clinics with 20,000 extra appointments per week across the State."
