Third Man Charged Over 17kg Methamphetamine Seizure

Police have charged a 33-year-old man with drug trafficking as part of the ongoing investigation into the recent seizure of approximately 17kg of methamphetamine (ice) at Burnie.

Two men have previously been charged with trafficking in a controlled substance following the seizure, and detectives from the Tasmania Joint Organised Crime Task Force (JOCTF) on Wednesday charged a third man in connection to the matter.

Police allege the man, from New Norfolk, is a member of an Outlaw Motorcycle Gang and was allegedly involved in the importation of a large quantity of methamphetamine into Tasmania which was seized during a targeted search of a vehicle by authorities on Friday, 18 September.

The man was arrested and safely taken into custody at Glenorchy on Wednesday 30 September.

He appeared in an after-hours sitting of the Hobart Magistrates Court on Wednesday evening and was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance and dealing in the proceeds of crime.

He was detained in custody and appeared in the Hobart Magistrates Court yesterday. He was bailed to reappear on 2 February 2027 for plea.

The two men previously charged remain in custody, ahead of their next court appearance on 4 November.
