Third man charged with murder after investigations into fatal stabbing at Emu Plains

Homicide Squad detectives have charged a third man with murder as inquiries continue into the fatal stabbing of another man in Sydney's west last year.

About 8am on Thursday 24 September 2020, emergency services were called to a reserve on Russell Street at Emu Plains, after the body of a man had been located.

He has since been formally identified as a 22-year-old Minchinbury man.

A vehicle found crashed nearby was seized for forensic examination.

Detectives from Nepean Police Area Command and the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad established Strike Force Mathinna to investigate the circumstances surrounding the man's death.

So far during the investigation, six men – aged 21, 22, 23, 25, 26 and 27 – have been charged over their alleged roles in the incident and remain before the courts.

Following further extensive inquiries, Homicide Squad detectives arrested a 20-year-old man at a home at Doonside about 5am today (Monday 9 August 2021).

He was taken to Mt Druitt Police Station and charged with murder.

The man was refused bail and appeared at Mt Druitt Local Court today, where he was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court on Monday 11 October 2021.

Investigations under Strike Force Mathinna are continuing.
