Threat Reduced For Severe Weather

The Cairns Region Local Disaster Management Group advises people in the Cairns Regional Local Government Area:

  • The THREAT IS REDUCED. The severe weather has passed. Strong winds and heavy rainfall are no longer expected.

The 29U Tropical Low is crossing the North Queensland coast between Cairns and Ingham today. Weather associated with this system is now expected to ease. 29U is moving inland away from Cairns Region, through to the northern interior and southern Queensland.

Cairns Regional Council continues to closely monitor and manage Reservoir and Dam Assets and encourages people to be "Water Wise" throughout the high-risk weather season.

Bureau of Meteorology continues a Flood Watch for the Barron, Mulgrave and Russell River catchments.

  • Conditions are easing and threat is reduced.

  • Do not drive, walk, swim, or play in floodwaters — it is dangerous.
  • Exercise caution and drive to the conditions. If its flooded – Forget it!
