Three Charged Over Safe Storage Violations: NSW Police

A man and woman will face court next year following a safe storage inspection in the state's Riverina region this month.

About 2.30pm Saturday 4 November 2023, investigators attached to the Rural Crime Prevention Team attended a property in Jerilderie, to conduct a safe storage inspection.

During the inspection, officers located a rimfire magazine and an unlocked firearm safe, with four firearms unaccounted for.

A man – aged 68 – and woman – aged 71 – were given a firearms licence notice of suspension before police seized five firearms, ammunition and the prohibited weapon – a rimfire magazine.

Police attended the property on Sunday 5 November 2023, where the woman surrendered a further firearm.

Following inquiries, about 4pm on Saturday (11 November 2023), investigators attended the property and served future court attendance notices to two men and a woman.

The man was charged with:

  • possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit
  • holder of Category A or B licence not have approved storage (five counts)
  • not keep firearm safely-not pistol/prohibited firearm (nine counts)
  • category C, D or H licensee not comply with storage needs
  • fail to produce registered firearm for inspection on demand (three counts)

The woman was charged with:

  • holder of Category A or B licence not have approved storage (four counts)
  • not keep firearm safely-not pistol/prohibited firearm (six counts)
  • category C, D or H licensee not comply with storage needs
  • not keep firearm safely-prohibited firearm

A 35-year-old man was charged with:

  • holder of Category A or B licence not have approved storage (two counts)
  • not keep firearm safely-not pistol/prohibited firearm (two counts)
  • category C, D or H licensee not comply with storage needs
  • not keep firearm safely-prohibited firearm
  • permit holder fail to notify change of address within 7 days
  • not notify changed address where firearm is stored
  • not notify firearm safe keeping arrangements at new address
  • not certify arrangements comply with Act/Reg

The trio will appear at Finley Local Court on Wednesday 14 February 2023.
