Three in custody after evading police in Glenorchy, TAS

Three people are in custody after an incident in Glenorchy this morning that involved a
stolen government vehicle, Tasmania Police say.

Officers from Glenorchy, acting on information from the public, approached the
stationary vehicle in Jackson Street about 11.30am, in an attempt to arrest the occupants.

However, the driver evaded police and a police officer was knocked to the ground by an
open door.

The police officer was taken to Calvary Hospital as a precaution where she was cleared
of physical injury and discharged.

After a coordinated response from several police units, road spikes were deployed in
Howard Road, and the car was stopped in the Royal Hobart Showgrounds.

The three occupants were then taken into custody without incident.

Investigations are continuing and the occupants will be interviewed in relation to a
number of driving offences, assaulting police and property offences.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact Tasmania Police on 131 444
or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
