Thunderbolts Way To Reopen Soon

MidCoast Council

MidCoast Council crews have been working tirelessly over the past two months to repair extensive flood damage on the Thunderbolts Way.

The main highway that connects the MidCoast with the New England region has been closed ever since the devastating May floods.

Despite the carnage to the roads and bridges and the many landslips, it is planned for reopening on Monday 11 August.

MidCoast Council Director of Infrastructure and Engineering Services, Rob Scott, said considering the amount of damage the area incurred it was a testament to the crews who have been working around the clock.

"This work reinstates a vital connection between the MidCoast and the New England," he said.

"Not to mention for the residents in the vicinity who have been severely impacted by the closure but also for the primary producers and other motorists who use this route regularly."

While it is great to see the road set to be reopened Mr Scott said there was still plenty of work to be done and urged motorists to drive to the conditions and warned of delays.

"On this road in particular our crews will still be working on it for some time so if you are travelling through, please be patient, observe all directions and signage and allow extra time for your trip. In some areas only one lane will be operational," he explained.
