Ballarat's annual celebration of pastry is entering its final week, and locals are being urged not to miss their chance to sample the 36 mouth-watering entries in Ballarat's Best Pie.
From flaky classics to bold new flavour combinations, bakeries, cafes, restaurants and bars across the region have brought their A-game and the community has responded with enthusiasm.
So far this month, over 9000 pies have been sold, 6000 more than the total number sold in 2024.
City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Tracey Hargreaves said the competition has been a fantastic showcase of local talent and culinary creativity.
"Ballarat boasts a phenomenal food scene and this competition proves just how passionate our chefs and bakers are," Cr Hargreaves said.
"And the response from the community has been incredible."
Participating businesses across Ballarat are reporting real outcomes, with many cafes selling out daily and enjoying a noticeable boost in foot traffic.
As the final week heats up, the spotlight is now on the community to cast their vote for the People's Choice Pie.
Most of the award winners were decided by a panel of expert judges at the start of August, however for the first time this year, the public can have a say.
"This final category gives everyone a chance to champion their favourite pie," Cr Hargreaves said.
"Whether you're a fan of a traditional chunky beef or something a little more adventurous, your vote could help crown the inaugural People's Choice winner.
"If you haven't had your pie fix yet, now is the time!"
Voting for the People's Choice Pie is open until Sunday 31 August 2025, with the winner to be announced on Tuesday, 2 September.
