TIQ makes new senior appointment in Germany

Treasurer and Minister for Trade and Investment The Honourable Cameron Dick

Trade and Investment Queensland has added to its global network with the appointment of Stefan Augustin as the new Director of Investment for Germany.

Treasurer and Minister for Trade and Investment Cameron Dick made the announcement during the Innovative German Australian Business Alliance event in Brisbane this evening, calling it "an important appointment for Queensland".

"Stefan will help our government identify new investment opportunities and secure larger trade deals in Germany, which will create more jobs for Queensland," Mr Dick said.

"In 2020-21, Queensland merchandise exports to Germany stood at $314.8 million, representing almost 10 per cent of Australia's total merchandise exports to the nation.

"Germany's investment into Australia totalled $47 billion in 2020, and includes commitments in Queensland by major German companies like Rheinmetall.

"They've gone on to establish the Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence in Redbank, the most advanced military vehicle manufacturing facility in our country.

"Rheinmetall's MILVEHCOE is the embodiment of what's possible when Germany and Queensland work together, and our government is proud to have secured the facility to create hundreds of new jobs for our state," he said.

"Siemens, meanwhile, is now conducting advanced manufacturing in Queensland, and we're well placed to attract German investment in our hydrogen industry.

"Queensland's trade and investment relationship with Germany is vital for our ongoing economic growth. Our government and state value it greatly.

"I congratulate Stefan on his new role and look forward to working with him as we continue promoting Queensland to Germany and the world."

Mr Augustin has spent the past 15 years working senior trade and investment roles around the globe, including stints with Austrade across different industries in both Australian and European markets.

Trade and Investment Queensland is the Queensland Government's dedicated global business agency assisting exporters and promoting Queensland as the place to invest.
