Love the thrill of finding a unique piece treasure with a story? Treasure hunting and shopping for collectables are booming, and Toowoomba Region's Recycle Markets are the ultimate destination for savvy treasure seekers this festive season.

Residents on the hunt for a recycled piece of treasure will now find it easier thanks to extended weekend trading hours at both Recycle Markets located at the Greater Toowoomba Waste Management Facility at O'Mara Road, Wellcamp and Kleinton Waste Management Facility. Throughout December and January, shoppers can now browse from 9am until 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) Waste portfolio spokesperson Councillor Melissa Taylor said the extended hours were introduced ready for the Christmas period in response to community feedback.

"The op-shop and thrifting trend is huge right now across our region with many Saturday and Sunday afternoons spent in second-hand shops like our Recycle Markets. The are a treasure trove of unique finds, from vintage furniture and quirky collectables to sporting gear and building supplies."

"We've listened to the community and extended the trading hours of our Recycle Markets on Saturdays and Sundays, so everyone has more time to explore, discover and give pre-loved items a second life", Cr Taylor said.

"The Recycle Markets are managed by Ability Enterprises in partnership with Toowoomba Regional Council. Ability Enterprises is a not-for-profit social enterprise, based in the Toowoomba Region, that provides employment opportunities for people who face barriers to employment.

"The Recycle Markets serve around 30,000 customers each year and have successfully diverted around 500 tonnes of waste from landfill, a huge win and cost saving for our community.

"They sell a diverse range of products including building supplies, household furniture, office furniture, bicycles, bric-a-brac, collectables, kitchenware, electrical goods, white goods, books, music, movies, toys, tools and machinery, bbqs, household items and appliances, sporting goods, plus much more," she said.

"Get along and enjoy the extended trading hours over Christmas to find your piece of treasure this weekend."
