Townsville families and health and fitness aficionados are reminded to mark 1 February on their calendars, with a stellar line-up of exhibitors locked-in for this year's Get Active Sign On.
The Get Active Sign On, which is Townsville City Council's centralised event for accessing opportunities in health, wellbeing, sport and fitness, will take over Townsville Stadium at Murray Lyons Crescent from 9am-1pm.
Due to overwhelming interest, exhibitor registrations have now closed.
Council organisers are now putting the finishing touches on the event, set to feature dozens of stallholders ranging from soccer clubs through to nutrition experts, as well as Active Zones that allow attendees to try out new sport and fitness activities on the day.
Townsville Deputy Mayor Suzy Batkovic said the annual Get Active Sign On was all about Council supporting the community to live a healthy and active lifestyle.
Cr Batkovic said a wide range of local sporting clubs, fitness groups and organisations would be on hand to help residents kick-start their health and fitness goals for the year ahead.
"The Get Active Sign On is a key event on our community calendar and a great opportunity for residents to see just how many options are available right here in Townsville," Cr Batkovic said.
"It's also a fantastic chance for families to come along together and explore activities they can enjoy throughout the year.
"Whether you're looking for a new sport for the kids, a fitness group for yourself, or simply wanting to try something new, everything you need will be in one place.
"If you've set a goal to make health and fitness a priority in 2026, this event provides the information and support to get started.
"There's something for every age and ability, and it's the perfect way to start the year on the right foot."
Townsville Dragon Boat Club (TDBC) President Robyn Glancy said the annual Get Active Sign On was one of the club's most important recruitment opportunities of the year.
"We attend every year with our sister club, Dragons Abreast Townsville, and on each occasion we meet people who have never seen dragon boating before and decide to try it out," Ms Glancy said.
"After a month of free 'Come & Try' sessions, many participants go on to join us.
"Being the start of the year when everyone is enthusiastic and excited about putting 12 month goals into action, there is always a real buzz about the event – we love chatting with those in attendance and seeing if they want to join in on the excitement of our sport of dragon boating racing."
TDBC has been running since 2011 and, alongside Dragons Abreast Townsville which was established in 2004, is proud to offer North Queenslanders the chance to participate in a fun and fulfilling sport that originated centuries ago in southern China.
"We are proud to call the Riverway clubhouse our home base. It's leased through Council, and affectionately called the Dragons Den (the Double D). It's a vital part of who we are and supports training, boat and equipment storage, club development, and our connection to the wider Riverway precinct and community," Ms Glancy said.
"Our club is very excited to attend the expo and share our sport with more people across Townsville in 2026. So, come along to the Get Active Sign On and find out what we, and many other sporting clubs, are all about."
