Townsville Aged Care Home Welcomes New Centenarian

It took six years for Carinity Fairfield Grange to welcome its first centenarian. This year, two residents aged 100 years or older have lived in the Townsville seniors' home.

The newest member of the Carinity 100 Club is Hilda Field, who celebrated her milestone 100th birthday on October 10.

Hilda was born in the tiny rural community of Barringha near Woodstock, located about 40km south of Townsville city, in 1925.

She worked as a shorthand in the railway office, then helped her husband with farming. They grew potatoes and pumpkins - picked by hand - then eventually transitioned into farming cattle.

Hilda recalls she once built a windmill with the guidance of her father-in-law.

Hilda is the third centenarian to live at Carinity Fairfield Grange aged care, following Amy Beasley (2022) and Margaret O'Neill (2025).

Federal Member for Dawson, Andrew Willcox, visited Hilda on her birthday and presented her with a special certificate honouring the centenarian.

Hilda is one of ten seniors who currently live in six Carinity aged care homes across Queensland, ranging in ages from 100 to 105 years.

Seven of the centenarians live in Brisbane, with one each in Townsville, Bundaberg, and Highfields, near Toowoomba.
