Townsville read-y to celebate Libraries 80th birthday

Townsville CityLibraries are turning 80 and to round out four months of celebrations, residents are invited to a free birthday party tomorrow.

Thuringowa Central Library is hosting a full day of activities and festivities.

Local Councillor Russ Cook said the party is a fantastic way for CityLibraries to celebrate 80 years in the Townsville community.

"We've had some fantastic events at our Libraries over the past few months and the festivities are coming to an end with this birthday bash – that means residents can expect a fun day filled with activities for everyone to enjoy," Cr Cook said.

"The party is free for everyone to attend and will include the grand opening of the Library of Things, interactive workshops, 3D printing, cake and so much more – I really encourage everyone to come down to Thuringowa and join in."

Cr Cook said the Thuringowa library is always packed with residents of all age groups.

"Our libraries are a much loved community service and it's great that we've been able to share the birthday celebrations with Townsville," Cr Cook said.

The Library of Things will have an official opening at 9.15am and residents will be able to borrow a number of things, including musical instruments, board games and even sewing machine or telescope.
