Traffic Changes At Jubilee Park For Junior Touch Titles

Wagga Wagga is just over week away from hosting the annual NSW Touch Association's (NSWTA) Junior State Cup Southern Conference.

The competition will draw players and spectators from across southern parts of the state to the Jubilee Park precinct from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 February for the carnival.

It is the eighth year in a row the city will play host to the premier NSW touch football junior representative event for southern NSW.

Council advises residents and motorists there will be changes to traffic conditions around the precinct during the carnival

Recreation Coordinator Josh Walsh says more than 8,000 players and spectators are expected to be in attendance across the three days of competition, which will mean higher than usual traffic movements and pedestrians in the area immediately surrounding the precinct.

"We will have lane closures and detours in place on the roads around Jubilee Park, along with a lowered speed limit for the duration of the event," Mr Walsh said

"We know these changes will impact on the surrounding residents and result in some disruptions and delays for those travelling through the area, particularly at the peak work and school traffic times.

"However, this is a fantastic event not just for those young players taking to the touch footy field, and their families and supporters, but also for the City of Wagga Wagga and the surrounding region, through the significant economic benefits it delivers.

"We are asking the community and road users for their understanding and patience and to drive to the conditions to ensure it's a fun, successful and safe three days for everyone."

Red Hill Road will be open to west-bound traffic only between the Bourke Street and Glenfield Road roundabouts, while Bourke Street between Bourkelands Drive and Red Hill Road roundabout will only be open to north-bound traffic.

A 40 kilometres per hour speed limit will be in effect on the roads surrounding the precinct and detours will be signposted.

Council will have traffic management personnel in place at major intersections and signage in the area to assist the flow of traffic.
