Wagga Wagga is just one week away from hosting the fourth annual NSW Touch Association's (NSWTA) Junior State Cup Southern Conference.
Players and spectators from across southern parts of the State will be back at the Jubilee Park precinct from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 February for the carnival.
Wagga Wagga City Council's Strategic Recreation Officer Peter Cook said there will be changed traffic conditions around Jubilee Park over the three-day carnival.
"Residents and motorists in the Jubilee Park area can expect some lane closures and detours with higher than normal traffic movements at certain stages of the day," Mr Cook said.
"Red Hill Road will be open to west-bound traffic only between the Bourke Street and Glenfield Road roundabouts, while a 40 kilometres per hour speed limit will be in effect along that stretch of road.
"Council will have traffic management personnel in place at major intersections and signage in the area to assist the flow of traffic.
"We expect there will be some challenges on the Friday as it clashes with work and school traffic, but we hope motorists are patient and understand that an event of this size is bringing significant economic benefit to the city."
NSWTA and Wagga Wagga City Council have planned to ensure a COVID-safe environment is provided at the carnival, with a format similar to the 2021 event.
"Each day will be divided into four sections under an 'arrive-play-leave' format, with a one-and-a-half-hour break before the next group of games begin," Mr Cook said.
"That structure will reduce the number of players and parents/supporters on site at any one time.
"From a traffic point-of-view that makes it flow a bit better and gives people time to get there before their games, find a park, play or watch the games and then leave before the next group comes in."
Motorists are also advised to take care in the area due to more pedestrian traffic expected in the area.

TRAFFIC CHANGES INCLUDE:
- Red Hill Road will be closed to east-bound traffic between the Glenfield Road and Bourke Street roundabouts, with detours via Bruce Street.
- Bourke Street between Bourkelands Drive and Red Hill Road roundabout will be closed to non-event traffic, with detours via Berembee Road, Bourkelands Drive and Holbrook Road.
- Road closures will be in place from 6am to 5pm on Friday and Saturday and 6am to 3pm on Sunday. Detours will be signposted.
