Traffic stop leads to drugs haul

A man was arrested after a traffic stop and subsequent search of his home uncovered more than 3000 street deals of illicit drugs.

About 3.45pm on Wednesday 22 April, police pulled over a vehicle on Elder Smith Drive, Mawson Lakes and allegedly found ecstasy tablets, a commercial quantity of cannabis and $2400 in cash in the car.

The driver, a 22-year-old man from Burton, was arrested.

Detectives then searched the man's Burton home, where they allegedly uncovered more ecstasy, cocaine and thousands of empty gelatine capsules.

A police spokesperson said, "As a result of a simple traffic stop, police have now seized over 300 grams of MDMA, 40 grams of cocaine, 1.5 kilograms of cannabis, gelatine capsules and cash, collectively valued at over $80,000."

"That's over 3000 street deals of harmful drugs that have been removed from our community and a reassurance to the public that in these uncertain times police are still out in force keeping people safe from harm."

The arrested man was charged with trafficking in a commercial quantity of a controlled drug and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on 3 August.
