Trans-Am impounded in Armadale

Prahran police have impounded a Trans-Am after it was seen performing burnouts and racing a number of cars in the south-eastern suburbs overnight.

Officers first spotted the vehicle leaving a carpark at the corner of Princes Highway and Westall Road, where the driver is believed to have met up with a number of other motorists for a car meet, around midnight.

The driver of the Trans-Am was seen to be driving in an erratic manner, performing a number of burnouts and travelling at speed along Dandenong Road.

The Air Wing assisted units on the ground and observed the car racing other vehicles inbound on Dandenong Road at times reaching speeds of approximately 150km/h in a 70km/h zone in Caulfield.

The 27-year-old driver was intercepted by police in Armadale.

It is expected the NSW man will be interviewed in relation to serious criminal offences in relation to his driving behaviour.

The Trans-Am was impounded for 30 days.
