Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has recently improved safety conditions for road uses and pedestrians at one of Toowoomba's busiest intersections.
The West and Stephen Street intersection in South Toowoomba has undergone a $625,000 major safety upgrade, focusing on improving the traffic flow and enhancing pedestrian crossing facilities at the busy thoroughfare.
TRC's Construction and Maintenance (Infrastructure Services) portfolio spokesperson Councillor Carol Taylor said the upgrades were part of Council's ongoing commitment to keep the community safe by maintaining and upgrading existing local infrastructure.
"This project is an example of our promise to the community outlined in this year's budget adoption and Capital Works Program, released in June, which stated Council's commitment to strengthening our foundations by delivering essential upgrades to our infrastructure," Cr Taylor said.
"The intersection at West and Stephen Streets is safer and accessible for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians and these upgrades will benefit our community for generations to come."
The construction works took approximately seven weeks and included upgrading the traffic signals, adjusting the traffic light phasing and improving pedestrian crossing facilities.
"Community safety is a key priority for Council, and we thank residents and road users for their patience during the construction period," Cr Taylor said.
