Trio charged after Ballarat home invasion

Police have charged three men following an aggravated home invasion in Ballarat this week.

Ballarat Crime Investigation Unit detectives, with the assistance of the Special Operations Group, arrested the trio after executing search warrants in Wendouree and Sebastopol this afternoon.

Officers allegedly located a loaded shotgun, ammunition and a stolen gun safe containing ammunition at the Wendouree address.

A 20-year-old from Brown Hill, 20-year-old from Mt Helen and 22-year-old from Creswick have all been charged with prohibited person possess firearm, aggravated burglary, theft of motor vehicle, drug possession, handle stolen goods and theft.

They were also fined for breaching the Chief Health Officer directions.

The men appeared before a bail justice where they were remanded to Ballarat Magistrates' Court on Monday.

The charges relate to a home invasion at an Ainsley Street address in Brown Hill about 11pm on 1 August.

A 22-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted during the incident and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
