Tripoli Way Extension Hits Final Design Milestone

Shellharbour City Council has reached a major milestone in the delivery of the Tripoli Way Extension, with the project's final design now complete and the project progressing towards construction.

The completion of the design follows several years of detailed planning, technical investigations and consultation to deliver a safer and more efficient transport connection for the growing Albion Park community. With the design finalised, Council has now progressed to the tender stage, with contractors invited to submit tenders for the main construction works.

Key design features include:

  • A two‑kilometre road corridor
  • A 30‑metre bridge over Hazelton Creek
  • Three signalised intersections
  • Four traffic lanes between Terry Street and Moles Street
  • Two traffic lanes between Moles Street and Broughton Avenue
  • Connections to the Illawarra Highway delivered in collaboration with Transport for NSW

Shellharbour City Mayor Chris Homer said finalising the design is an important step forward in progressing this long-term project that has been on the books since 1961. This reflects the strong collaborative relationship between Council and the NSW Government to deliver infrastructure in one of the State's fastest‑growing regions.

"The new Tripoli Way Road is one of the region's largest infrastructure projects and it will improve safety, reduce congestion in Albion Park and Calderwood."

The new Tripoli Way Road will bypass the Albion Park town centre, delivering a continuous two‑kilometre transport corridor linking Terry Street in the east to Broughton Avenue in the west. The project includes road widening, new intersections, drainage works and safety upgrades along the corridor.

"The extension will ease congestion at key choke points, reduce pressure on local streets and make it safer and easier for people to move across the city, while supporting a more accessible and connected Albion Park town centre while also supporting the housing crisis through the delivery of infrastructure for homes," Mayor Homer said.

In preparation for the upcoming main construction works, telecommunications service relocations are underway on site.

The Tripoli Way Extension is jointly funded by Shellharbour City Council and the NSW Government, reflecting a shared commitment to accelerating infrastructure delivery in high‑growth communities across NSW.

Council will continue to keep the community informed as the project progresses.
