TV star to headline Townsville's Carols by Candlelight

Justine Clarke is one of Australia's most-loved children's entertainers. Now she's preparing to take on her newest role as the headline act at Townsville City Council's Carols by Candlelight.

The city's annual Christmas event is set to be bigger and better than ever before, with the return of the big top tent, Santa's tropical tent and a showcase of incredible local talent.

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said it was a spectacular night out that shouldn't be missed.

"We all know it's been a trying year for the community following the February monsoon, so this is a great way to wrap up the year on a positive note," Cr Hill said.

"This is going to be a fantastic event featuring ABC star Justine Clarke, as well as plenty of the city's own talented singers and dancers."

Cr Hill said it was also a great opportunity to make a difference in the lives of less fortunate locals.

"There are plenty of people still doing it tough in our community, and it's so easy to do your part to help them by buying a flame-safe candle at the event for $3 to support the Mayor's Christmas Tree Appeal," she said.

"They'll also come in handy for participating in many of our favourite Christmas songs to help us all celebrate Christmas together."

Carols By Candlelight will be held at Riverway on Sunday 8 December from 4pm.

The night will include amusement rides, arts and crafts workshops, and photo opportunities with Santa.
