City of Darwin is inviting residents to roll up their sleeves and help create a greener Anula at a Community Planting Day on Saturday 10 October 2026.
The free community event will see 300 native groundcovers, shrubs and trees planted in the Anula Greenbelt, between Anula Shopping Centre and Anula Primary School.
Lord Mayor Peter Styles said the planting day was a great opportunity for residents and families to come together and make a positive contribution to their local neighbourhood.
"Community planting days are a simple and enjoyable way for residents to get involved in improving our shared spaces and helping make Darwin greener," Mr Styles said.
"This is a chance to get outdoors, meet others in the community and play a hands-on role in creating a greener and more welcoming space for everyone to enjoy."
Ahead of the planting day, City of Darwin will prepare the new garden beds and tree pits, including soil cultivation and amelioration, quality topsoil, mulch and irrigation.
An upgrade to the irrigation mainline beneath the road was completed in September, with further works to extend irrigation to the new garden beds and tree pits scheduled for completion on 3 October.
City of Darwin will provide trowels and garden gloves for participants, along with limited sunscreen and insect repellent and cold bottled water, primarily for children and seniors.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own drinking water, wear a hat and appropriate sun-protective clothing, and come ready to lend a hand. A drinking water bubbler is also available at the nearby playground.
