Two Charged After Private Gun Investigations in SF

Drug & Firearm Squad detectives have charged two men following separate investigations into privately manufactured firearms, under Strike Force Temarang.

Strike Force Temarang was established by State Crime Command's Drug & Firearms Squad into the importation and manufacture of 3D printed firearms and firearm parts, 3D computer aided designed software, and other privately manufactured firearms. It's a collaborative effort involving commonwealth partners including the Department of Home Affairs Firearms Intelligence and Targeting Team (FITT) and the Australian Federal Police Forensic Intelligence (FORINT).

About 6.25am on Friday (11 July 2025), a 25-year-old man was stopped by police on George Bass Drive, Lilli Pilli.

A short time later, strike force detectives – with the assistance of Southern Region Operation Support group – executed a search warrant at a property on Currawong Street, Malua Bay.

During a search of the home, police located and seized a 3D printed Glock-style firearm, 3D printers, ammunition and electronics.

Police also located an established mushroom cultivation in process and items consistent with a clandestine laboratory.

Specialist police from the Drug and Firearms Squad's Chemical Operations Unit, the Technical Forensic Support Unit and NSW Fire & Rescue attended to dismantle the lab.

The 25-year-old man was arrested and taken to Batemans Bay Police Station, where he was charged with possess unauthorised firearm, possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, acquire etc pistol-subject to firearms prohibition order and acquire etc pistol part - subject to prohibition order.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Saturday (12 July 2025), where he was refused bail to appear before Batemans Bay Local Court today (Monday 14 July 2025).

About 7.45am on Friday (11 July 2025), strike force detectives – with the assistance of Southern Region Operation Support Group – executed a search warrant at a property on Norton Road, Wamboin.

Police located and seized six firearms – three of which are believed to have been privately manufactured – a number of suspected privately manufactured firearm components, ammunition, electronic devices and an amount of cannabis.

A 34-year-old man was arrested at the property and was taken to Queanbeyan Police Station.

He was charged with six counts of possess unauthorised pistol, possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, possess more than three unregistered firearms, one is prohibited/pistol, not keep firearm safely-not pistol/prohibited firearm and possess prohibited drug.

He faced Parramatta Local Court on Saturday (12 July 2025), where he was refused bail to appear before Queanbeyan Local Court today (Monday 14 July 2025).
