Two men will face court today, following an alleged robbery in the state's Far West overnight.
About 9.30pm yesterday (Thursday 17 September 2026), officers attached to Barrier Police District were called to an oval on Williams Street, Broken Hill, following reports of an assault and robbery.
Police arrived and were told an 18-year-old man had allegedly been punched in the head from behind by another man - aged 18 - before allegedly being struck several times by a group of people - including a different 18-year-old man.
One of the men then allegedly stole his bag containing an amount of cash, bank card and mobile phone, before leaving in an SUV.
The man was treated for injuries at Broken Hill Base Hospital.
Following inquiries, about 10.30pm the same day, police attended a home on Thomas Lane, Broken Hill, where they arrested two 18-year-old men.
At the home, police seized an SUV, which will undergo forensic examination, along with several other items allegedly relating to the investigation.
Police will allege one of the men kicked out during his arrest, causing a door on a police vehicle to hit an officer.
The two men were taken to Broken Hill Police Station, where one was charged with,
- Aggravated robbery
- Affray, and
- Assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm.
The second man was charged with,
- Assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of other(s) (DV)
- Common assault, and
- Affray.
Both were refused bail to face Broken Hill Local Court today (Friday 18 September 2026).
