Two Men Charged After Hobart CBD Motorcycle Theft Attempt

Two men have been charged by South East CIB following their arrests yesterday afternoon after they allegedly attempted to steal a motorcycle in the Hobart CBD and subsequently left the scene in a stolen white Ford Courier, crashed with a vehicle on the Brooker Highway, and attempted to set fire to the vehicle in Milburn Place Glenorchy, and flee the scene.

A 28-year-old man from Bridgewater was charged with:

  • Motor vehicle stealing
  • Attempted motor vehicle stealing
  • Drive while disqualified
  • Fail to comply with the duties of a driver involved in a crash
  • Unlawfully setting fire to property
  • Contravene conditions of a notice.

A 22-year-old man from Orford was charged with:

  • Motor vehicle stealing
  • Attempted motor vehicle stealing
  • Breach of bail conditions.

Both men were detained to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court today.
