Two men critically ill after Lilyfield crash

Two men have critical head injuries and a woman is in a serious condition after a crash at Lilyfield.

About 7.30pm yesterday (Sunday 26 May 2019), emergency services were called to 100 metres west of the intersection on City West Link Road and Darley Road, Lilyfield, after reports a red Volkswagen Golf hatchback and a black Volkswagen Golf sedan collided.

A 49-year-old Burwood woman, who was the driver and sole occupant of the westbound red Volkswagen hatchback, remains in a stable condition at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

Two 21-year-old men travelling in the eastbound black Volkswagen sedan sustained serious injuries. Both were initially trapped in the wreckage. The driver, from Canley Heights, underwent emergency surgery and remains in a critical but stable condition at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

His passenger, a Bossley Park man, is also critically ill at the same hospital.

Crash Investigation Unit Inspector Katie Orr said it was too early to discount any line of inquiry.

"Our inquiries at the scene lead us to believe one of the cars was travelling above the speed limit at the time of the crash," Inspector Orr said.

"We have seized the black Volkswagen and it will be mechanically examined.

"Once medical clearance is given we will speak with all three people involved about what they might recall.

"This is why any dash-cam or home security camera footage from the area that shows either vehicle in the moments before the crash is so crucial."
