Two men in custody following alleged armed robbery in Devonport, TAS

Two men are in police custody following an armed robbery at a Devonport Hotel Bottle Shop this morning, Tasmania Police say.

A 19 year old man and a 25 year old man were arrested and are now assisting police with their inquiries.

Police were called to the Alexander Hotel Big Bargain Bottle Shop in Formby Road, Devonport, about 11am today.

Police allege two offenders, both armed with knives, entered the hotel bottle shop and demanded money from the staff.

The offenders have then fled the scene driving a 1999 white Nissan Pulsar vehicle registration number EN8605.

The vehicle was intercepted in the vicinity of Hadspen.

Enquiries have ascertained that the vehicle was stolen from Battery Point during the evening of Saturday 15 October.

No staff or customers were injured during the incident.

Anyone who observed the males acting suspiciously in the vicinity of the Alexander Hotel Big Bargain Bottle Shop or the vehicle travelling along the Bass Highway should phone Police on 131 444 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously.
