Two new landmark events coming to Western Sydney in August

Minister for Enterprise, Investment and Trade

Western Sydney will amplify its status as an entertainment powerhouse with two brand new ground-breaking events, HallyuPopFest Sydney and SOUND WEST.

The NSW Government, through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, is bringing the global phenomenon of K-pop to Qudos Bank Arena from 13-14 August for the inaugural HallyuPopFest Sydney, celebrating the best of Korean music and lifestyle; while Australia's first music and technology festival, SOUND WEST, will take place in Parramatta from 20-28 August.

Minister for Enterprise, Investment and Trade, Minister for Tourism and Sport and Minister for Western Sydney Stuart Ayres said these events reflect the cosmopolitan vibrancy that is seeing Western Sydney emerge as an international visitor destination.

"Western Sydney is going from strength to strength, building a reputation as a dynamic city to live, visit, do business and host major international events," Mr Ayres said.

K-pop music festival HallyuPopFest Sydney will feature a stellar line-up of Korean pop stars performing and meeting their devoted fans, with thousands expected to converge on Western Sydney to immerse themselves in Korean music and lifestyle.

"Korean music and culture has become a global phenomenon over the past decade and nowhere in Australia is the K-pop revolution more evident than Western Sydney.

"The opportunity to see some of the world's best K-pop acts and attend meet and greet sessions will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for thousands of fans who will flock to Western Sydney, providing a significant boost to the local visitor economy."

SOUND WEST will feature performances from established and emerging artists and a two-day music and technology conference at CommBank Stadium, including sessions, workshops and mentoring from some of Australia's biggest tech brands and music industry leaders.

"SOUND WEST recognises the immense talent in Western Sydney and the technology driven roots being laid down in the engine room of Sydney," Mr Ayres added.

"It is the first event of its kind in Australia and will bring together brilliant minds, industry leaders and music enthusiasts to share ideas, network and enjoy the creativity of home-grown artists."

"Delivering world-class events like HallyuPopFest Sydney and SOUND WEST in Western Sydney reflects and builds on the growing vibrancy of the city, which is key to achieving our goal of making Sydney the events capital of the Asia Pacific."

Member for Parramatta, Dr Geoff Lee said Sound West will showcase the city's DNA.

"Parramatta is an exciting city that fosters innovation, experimentation and a strong sense of community - Sound West will highlight the unique talent and development of the region," Dr Lee said.

"It will be exciting for Parramatta to host Sound West as they bring together brilliant minds, industry leaders and music enthusiasts to share ideas, network and enjoy the creativity of home-grown artists."

HallyuPopFest Sydney will take place at Qudos Bank Arena from 13-14 August with tickets on sale to the general public from Tuesday 28 June.
