  • Cook Labor Government and 2025-26 State Budget delivering important cost-of-living support for Western Australian families

Premier Roger Cook and Education Minister Sabine Winton are reminding Western Australian families who are yet to claim the WA Student Assistance Payment to do so before Term 2 ends on Friday 4 July.

Parents and carers of eligible students from Kindergarten to Year 12, who are enrolled in WA public or non-government schools or registered for home education, can claim $250 for each secondary student and $150 for each kindergarten or primary student.

Claims have been submitted for more than 393,343 students already, which puts the program on track to surpass the 400,000 student claims paid last year.

This year, extra support has been offered in regional and other communities that may not have claimed the payment in its first round, including offering alternative claim methods, social media promotion, targeted outreach, supplying internet dongles to remote communities, and the new ServiceWA Digital Assist Kiosk trial.

The Minister for Education has also written to all school Principals to encourage promotion of the payment.

The fastest way to claim is using the ServiceWA app, which will ensure the payment is received in around a week.

Alternative claim methods are available via the Department of Education website , with paper forms also available where needed.

Eligibility for the payment is validated through each student's unique WA student number (WASN), which can be found on school reports, previous NAPLAN results or SmartRider cards.

As stated by Premier Roger Cook:

"I encourage every WA family with school-aged children to make sure they claim their WA Student Assistance Payment by Friday 4 July, to ensure they don't miss out.

"As a dad from Kwinana, I know firsthand how quickly school costs add up, and the WA Student Assistance Payment goes a long way to covering or replacing everyday school items like shoes, uniforms or stationery.

"These payments are already helping to purchase new school essentials for students right across the State."

As stated by Education Minister Sabine Winton:

"We have already seen a significant number of families claim the WA Student Assistance Payment, but we want as many families as possible to submit claims before the closing date.

"That's why we're reminding families across the State that they have around two weeks left to claim the payment, which helps cover the cost of school essentials.

"Our government has been making every effort to provide more support for communities where there was low take-up of the payment last year, and we will continue to do so.

"I'd like to thank everyone who has helped make this program a success so far, from school Principals and teachers to regional education staff, library teams, and community organisations that have helped families with the claiming process.

"By supporting families with school-related costs, we're helping students have positive learning experiences."
