UN: Gaza, West Bank Deaths and Demolitions Surge

The United Nations

Amid a rise in lethal Israeli strikes, demolitions and violence in Gaza and the West Bank, the Security Council holds an open debate on Thursday focusing on the current situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

Key points

  • More than 1,400 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the October 2025 Hamas-Israel ceasefire agreement that ended two years of war
  • Nearly all of Gaza's 2.1 million people still need shelter assistance as winter sets in, with the UN migration agency, IOM, warning that current supplies meet only about 17 per cent of needs
  • Aid into Gaza remains held back by underfunding and Israeli restrictions, including limited access to more than 64 per cent of Gaza's land: UN relief agency, OCHA
  • In the West Bank, more than 1,600 Israeli settler attacks were recorded this year as of mid-September, over 4,300 Palestinians have been displaced and, with the olive harvest underway, UN partners are working to protect farmers
