Understanding Child Safe Standards

Everyday, Children across Knox participate in activities and services delivered by community organisations and services. As a Child Safe Organisation, Council is committed to providing children with a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment in which they can thrive.

We are offering community organisations and groups a free workshop to understand their mandatory requirements to protect children and young people from harm and abuse, set out in the Victorian Child Safe Standards. The Standards aim to: promote the safety of children; prevent child abuse; and ensure organisations have effective processes in place to respond to and report all allegations of child abuse.

This workshop will support you to understand the key requirements you need to fulfil to be compliant with the Standards. There will be practical ideas and opportunities to discuss and ask questions.

What you will learn:

  • Understand the Standards, with a focus on key requirements for organisations in the areas of governance, child safe recruitment and training of staff and volunteers
  • Ability to recognise and report abuse
  • Understand the implications for community groups and organisations

The session will be facilitated by Council's Child Safe Advisor.

Date, time: Thursday 18 September, 7-9pm

Venue: Knox Civic Centre, 511 Burwood Highway, Wantirna South
