UNESCO Chief Condemns Haiti Journalist's Killing

UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay has condemned the killing of journalist Dumesky Kersaint near the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince on 16 April.
I condemn the killing of Dumesky Kersaint. All too many Haitian journalists pay the ultimate price for their reporting, restricting the vital flow of information to populations. I call on the authorities to investigate this crime and strengthen measures to protect media professionals.
Audrey Azoulay Director-General of UNESCO

Dumesky Kersaint, a journalist at Radio Télé Inurep, was shot and killed by armed assailants, in the Mahotiere 83 neighborhood of the municipality of Carrefour. Ten other Haitian journalists have been killed since January 2022, according to UNESCO data.

UNESCO promotes the safety of journalists through global awareness-raising, capacity building and by coordinating the implementation of the UN Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity.
