UNESCO Chief Condemns Killing of Photojournalist in Palestine

Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, has condemned the killing of photojournalist Rasmi Jihad Salem in Gaza City, Palestine on 2 September.

I condemn the killing of Rasmi Jihad Salem and call for a thorough investigation to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice. I reiterate my call to respect UN Security Council Resolution 2222 unanimously adopted in 2015 on the protection of journalists, media professionals and associated personnel as civilians in situations of conflict, a status recently reaffirmed in the UN Pact for the Future.
